Session Descriptions

Art, Ceramics and Media

  • Explore multiple mediums in the studio and along the Maine coast, including elements of drawing, design, and sculpture.
  • Visit the Farnsworth and Wyeth Art Museums and the studio-of-Maine artist Eric Hopkins.

Character in Action

  • Build and test character by learning how to apply courage and curiosity in your life.
  • Engage in action-based leadership-building activities, such as running a mile and climbing a mountain.

City Lights

  • Learn about major cities and the prominent role they play in today’s society by travelling to New York, Boston and Newport, experiencing their cultures, and visiting major landmarks.

  Community Service

  • Be one of the many contributors of organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, that provide for those in need.
  • Becoming actively involved by committing to on-the-ground efforts with the people, communities and cultures that make a difference in our world.

Creative Writing

  • Discover the stories of Maine writers, while working on a personal narrative and poetry.
  • Meet with a publisher and well-known author.

Family  Weekend

Graphic Arts & Design

  • Learn desktop publishing, electronic presentation, and imaging while examining relationships between form and content, word and image.
  • Work cooperatively to plan, design and produce print and online projects.

Lacrosse Camp

  • Seasoned lacrosse players teach all aspects of the game, including individual fundamentals and team play, while coaching toward personal fitness goals and higher-level skills.

Maine Coastal Expedition

  • Learn about the rich history of Maine’s coast, from the mouth of the Kennebec River to Lubec, with stops at the Maine Maritime Academy, Civil War forts, College of the Atlantic, and some of Maine’s most beautiful harbors to discover the art of shipbuilding.
  • Climb Cadillac Mountain.

Maine Whitewater Rafting

  • A high-energy tour of Maine’s challenging rivers by raft and kayak, and a scenic mountain climb.
  • Map out and travel across lakes and down rivers while learning about expeditionary travel and local history.

Outdoor Adventure

  • Travel the traditional way through the pristine Maine landscape on foot and by canoe.
  • Discover some of New England’s oldest trails, lakes and rivers.

Songwriting

  • Develop songwriting skills—hip-hop, rock, folk or country—learn new techniques, rehearse in a recording studio and compile a CD. Open mic events and evening shows.

Summer Finale

  • Forge lifelong friendships during this culminating Summer Sessions weekend.
  • Participate in an energetic production while learning the art of leadership.
  • Parents take part in a weekend program with their student and learn about Hyde’s unique approach to parenting.

  • Learn about the importance of female leaders in history and meet current women leaders.
