Hyde - 47
Valley - 38

The Hyde Phoenix traveled north in a light snow, Thursday, to face off against the Cavaliers from Valley High School. While it was cold outside, the weather in the gym was tropical as the locals filled the stands and brought the noise.  It was the noise that flustered the Phoenix early, but they managed to hold together a small lead at the end of the first quarter. With early foul trouble, the visitors never quite found a rhythm for which to play in, and newly appointed captain, Ted Cercos ‘11, spent most of the first half on the bench.  He would turn around in the second half and played with composure befitting a captain.  Jonah Alexander ‘12 led the glass clean up, tallying 20 rebounds throughout the contest.  The Phoenix came out fired up in the second half and opened up a 15-point lead by the end of the third quarter.  As Harry Smith ‘10, returned to the floor after sitting for some foul trouble, the Phoenix looked to be squarely in control of the ball game.  Yet, some sloppy play and some timely three point shots put the Cavaliers back in the contest as they clawed within 7 late in the fourth.  Hyde was able to hold off the charge and escape with a win. Dave Duncan ‘10 played solidly late in the contest to help seal the deal.  Brendan Hyland ‘11 logged some quality minutes off the bench in the win, supplying some timely steals for the Phoenix.  The Phoenix are on the road again Friday night, traveling to Wanyflete, a game that Hyde won in overtime only a week ago.
