Pfosi runs Strong Despite Loss to Exeter and Governors

Hyde’s Indoor Track program competed on Wednesday in a three-way meet against Phillips-Exeter and Governors Academy.  We walked in the field house at 2:20 for a 3:00PM meet only to find that 1) the officials wanted to get the meet going ASAP and 2) the standard order of events for an indoor track meet had been changed with certain key events for us (i.e., the 600 and 2 mile) eliminated.  Oh well.  We adjusted quickly as the meet hastily got underway.  Exeter had a team of 90+ athletes and Governors had another 25+.  We had eight competing athletes total (four men and four women… Robin Platte `10 was ill and could not attend).

On the women’s side, we ended up placing third as a team.  I was generally pleased with the performances.  Olivia Chance `10 placed second in the 300 (48.9), 4th in the shot put (25’9”), and anchored our women’s 4 x 300 relay which place second to Exeter by .7 tenths of a second.  Emeline Ferguson `11 didn’t place in any of her events but ran well in the 55 dash (8.4), the 300 (51.3) and her leg of the relay.  Hannah MacMillan `10 placed 5th in the mile (6:42.3) and also ran a very strong leg of the relay.  Cece Jackson `10, who is back from an injury, had a very successful debut with a 6th place finish in the 55 dash (7.4), a third place finish in the 1000 (3:28.2), and a strong relay leg.  Overall, the girls scored 29 team points.

On the men’s side, Zach Pfosi `10 won the 1000 (2:53.5) and with less than 15 minutes rest, competed in the mile, placing second (5:24.2).  Juno Ra `11 came out of nowhere to place second in the long jump (17’ 8¼”).  Juno also ran (didn’t place) in the 55 dash (6.2) and 300 (41.1).  Kenton Powell `10 took fourth place finishes in all his events… shot put (39’ 7½”), long jump (17’ ½”), and the 300 (39.4).  Kenton had a 42+ foot throw which he unfortunately fouled on.  Paxton Hansard `12, ran an impressive 3:42.3 in the 1000.  The men’s team scored 36 total points.

It was a good day for Hyde track and field.  The performance results are attached.

Phillips Exeter: 156
Governors Academy: 74
Hyde: 36
