Phoenix - 25
WolfPack - 8
The “Phighting Phoenix” traveled south in the rain to take on our sister school and the Wolfpack of Woodstock. It is always great when a Hyde team wins; especially Bath. The Phoenix defense came up strong as they pounded the Wolfpack offense holding them to 62 yards on the ground and 59 in the air. Bath pounded the ball behind the running of Mike Ingalls ‘10 (13 carries for 67 yards and 2 TD’s) as he returned the opening kickoff 55 yards to the Wolfpack 15 yard line. On a dive over senior linemen Tyler Works and Kaniel Rose-Tamkin, Ingalls rumbled in for his first TD of the day. Ted Cercos ‘11 kicked the extra point and with 10:42 to go in the first quarter the Phoenix were up 7 - zip. High spirits continued as the Big D stuffed the pack running game forcing a punt on 4th and 18. Four plays later, Ted Cercos kicked a 34 yard field goal to go up 10 - zip with 5:46 to go in the game.
The Wolfpack did not quit. Halfway through the 2nd quarter, Pack #12 QB Charles Watson found former Hyde Bath player #11 Chris Velez in the end zone for 6 points. The 10 - 6 score would last through the half time and well into the 3rd as the rain and slippery ball continued to hamper the Bath offense and the Bath defense continued to hamper the Woodstock offense. At the 4:32 mark in the third, Mike Ingalls drove off tackle again and rambled in for his second TD. On the ensuing two point conversion Pack defensive back #3 Giovanni Capri intercepted the two point pass and ran it back 98 yards to give the pack the two point conversion…going the other way!! With the score Bath: 16 Woodstock: 8 and the rain continuing to pound both teams, The Big Phoenix D sacked the Pack QB Watson in the end zone for a safety and a 18 - 8 lead. Harry Smith ‘10 (4 completions for 72 yards while carrying 6 times for 31 yards) found Mike Ingalls and Dave Duncan ‘10 with passes and Kenton Powell ‘10 drove the ball home at the 5:46 mark of the 4th. This time the extra point went right through the goal posts and Bath took charge with 25 - 8 lead late in the fourth.
The Pack posted a solid drive late in the fourth, but the Phoenix D stifled the Wolf offense again driving them back from a 2st and 10 at the Bath 12 to a fourth and desperation from the 32 yard line. Cole Shapiro ‘10 highlighted the defense as he came up strong with five QB Sacks, with Tyler Works and Alex Needham, Smith, Ingalls and Powell each lending a hand with several tackles of their own. The Phoenix finish their season with a 4 and 4 record.
