Hyde – 1
Kents Hill – 0
Winter seemed to be making its introduction on Wednesday as the Phoenix arrived at Kents Hill to play the defending Class D New England Champions. The cold temperature and high wind made the match even more formidable. After a quick warm up, the opening whistle blew and the teams fought hard to be the first on the board. Hyde dominated play in the first half. Cece Jackson ’10 seemed to have the magic touch, placing three corner kicks perfectly on the six, two of which were deflected wide and high by Sage Harris ’11. Hyde’s defensive quartet was able to keep Kents Hill on their own half with outstanding efforts by Shannon Vize ’10 and Scout Gauld ’10. Unfortunately, all opportunities were missed and the half remained scoreless.
The momentum was up for grabs in the second half and after a five-minute battle, it swung in the home team’s direction. Hyde couldn’t generate offense and found themselves in a defensive position for much of the half. This changed late in the game. On another well-played corner kick by Cece Jackson ’10, the ball deflected off the keeper and landed in the box. Sage Harris ’11 was there to strike it for the first and only goal with 4:01 minutes remaining in the game. Hyde held tough and clock ran out for Kents Hill. The team travels to play sister school, Hyde-Woodstock on Saturday.
